For Information Mayor and Council . August 22, 1974 Work in Progress - Sewerage District Work on the 80 million dollar 5 year program will be completed in the Spring of 1975. The purpose of this program has been to provide a minimum of primary treatment for all sewage discharges from the Greater Vancouver area. It also included the elimination of continuous overflows of sanitary sewage to the Burrard Inlet. This program required the construction of approximately 78 miles of pipe~ lines, two dozen pumping stations, two treatment plants and improvements to the two existing treatment plants. , In the Fraser Sewerage Area the Annacis Island Sewage Treatment Plant being con~ | structed by Cana Construction is now 60% complete. Tistrict Forces have completed 10% of the 17,000 feet of South Surrey Interceptor sewer which passes through Surrey and Delta along the northerly boundary of the Burns Bog. This sewer comprises 14,500 lineal feet of cast-in-place box with inside dimensions 5 feet by 6 feet and 2,500 feet of twin 68 inch diameter precast pipes. District Forces have commenced the construction of the Port Coquitlam Forcemain which comprises 8,300 feet of 36 inch diameter concrete and steel pipe. This pipeline will connect the Port Coquitiam Pumping Station to the Coquitlam Interceptor adjacent to the Essendale Hospital. Bent Construction who have contracted to construct the Port Coquitlam Pumping Station have commenced dewatering the site to prepare for excavation. Tenders for the Con- struction of the two interceptors which run north to intercept to Port Coquitlam Lagoon and south to pick up the Mary Hill Area will be called later this month.
