Greater Vancouver Regional District ~- May 8, 1974 Seminar The G.V.R.D. has accepted in principle the following recommendations: Regional Town Centres (a) (b) Seven suggested locales for Regional Town Centers but no specific place. They will be contacting the municipalities to recommend two or three priority sites. They will be discussing the necessary transportation at length. Open Space (a) (b) (c) (4) (e) Have endorsed in principle a conservation approach to sites and hold them if urban land demands can be met in other ways. Request a review of the Scenic Highways Act. Propose a creation of one or more stream and water basiu management bodies which would include the Coquitlam River. Permit consideration of a region wide referendum on Open Space funding in time for the 1975 budget. The G.V.R.D. staff be directed to incorporate proposals for Regional funding of advanced parkland acquisition and development in the studies currently underway, with the caution that the proposals should not involve the Regional District in acquisition and management of local parks, Compact Residential Communities (a) (b) Increase residential densities Establish a replotting service and a revolving fund function for the acquisition of properties for resale after consolidation and replotting of building sites and choose a team to work with municipalities in choosing sites for replotting.
