Re: Recreation Centre Staff Mr. Owen Howard who was previously the manager of the Moose Jaw Country Club will be filling the Recreation Centre Supervisor's position. Mr. Howard has had considerable background in management and his last position involved the mIanagement of a curling, recreation centre, golf course complex. This position was authorized last year and the filling of the position was delayed while we were considering the proposed curling rink and family recreaticn addition. Mr. Griffith, the Recreation Director, will be relocating in the City Hall, I believe this will be beneficial in that. it will relieve Clyde of the day to day pressure of the Arena problems. Mr. Howard has taken up his new post and will be responsible for all matters pertaining to the Arena in his capacity as manager. 2. Re: Federal Government Loal Initiative Programme ; a i I have xeceived word from Canada Manpower that our project application for City Hall renovations has been turned down. The only reason given for this refusal was that the programme was not designed as a "make work" programme and the projects being considered for approval were those that provided a facility that would be of lasting benefit to the comunity. This project was submitted under this programme on the recommendation of the Department of Municipal Affairs Oo . and after reviewing the criteria for the programme, I feel that the project should qualify. I have, therefore, resubmitted a revised project application with a further explanation of the benefits of the project. - : The project application submitted for the Poco Trail work has been appro- ved. This project was submitted on behalf of the Poco Trail Blazers and will in- volve five men for a period of three months. We had included in our Provisional Budget the sum of $5,000.00 as our share of the cost of this work and it is my understanding from the submission made by the Poco Trail Blazers that this project will enable completion of this hiking trail facility. If the p@ject goes accord- ing to budget, the Federal contribution should amount to approximately $7,500.00 and the total budget for the project will be approximately $10,600.00.
