That was the message given by trustee Phil Rankin — and a conclusion already drawn by others in the B.C. education community — at a rally of some 1,000 Vancouver residents Friday. “We know the minister (of education) will be busy seeking as many deals as possi- ble, because he’s succeeded in silencing the most outspoken board in the province,” Rankin, one of the five-member majority Commitiee of Progressive Electors on the board, told the rally. The demonstration, which drew together Tepresentatives and speakers from a broad Cross-section of trade unions, teachers, par- ents and students, outside the Expo 86 mega- project, was the third since the minister fired the trustees for defying the Socred govern- Ment’s orders and bringing in a budget $14 million over the spending limits.
