DISTRICT OF COQUITLAM 1111 BRUNETTE AVENUE, COQUITLAM, B.C. V3K 1E9 PHONE 526-3811 1984 March 22 COUNCIL Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam APR 9 1984 2272 McAllister Avenue Port Coquitlam, B.C. V3C 2A8 Attention: Mr. Ron Freeman City Clerk Dear Sir: Re: Extension to ALRT System - The decision to build an ALRT line in Greater Vancouver was based on studies conducted jointly by the G.V.R.D. and the Province. These studies concluded that the first phase of rapid transit should include branches to Surrey and the Lougheed Mall area, in order to derive full benefit from the investment in the System. The system is now under construction to New Westminster, and the Province has recently announced a commitment to construct the Surrey branch. Coquitlam Council is concerned that a similar commit- ment be made to. complete the Coquitlam branch, so that the system will function as originally :ntended, and so that the Northeast Sector and eastern Burnaby can share in the benefits thereof. Staff have reviewed potential routings from the New Westminster boundary, and have found construction of the Coquitlam branch to be quite feasible. In approaching the Province on this matter, Coquitlam would seek the Support of neighbouring municipalities, and to that end, the Council passed the following resolution on March 19, 1984; "That the Municipal Clerk be authorized to write the Burnaby, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody and Belcarra 36
