March 7th, 1977 CORRESPONDENCE & PETITIONS: From the Kinsmen Club of Port Coquitlam, February 21st, 1977, expressing thanks to the Council and City employees, particularly Mr. Vince Borch, the City Engineer, for the co-operation given with respect to the construction of the first Participark in Canada, and stating that the Kinsmen will build the Participark to a standard all will be proud of. Alderman Traboulay stated he felt that the sign for the Participark should include reference to the assistance provided by the City, and upon taking cognizance of the suggestion made by Alderman Traboulay, Alderman Ranger advised that the Participark would be officially opened on April 1st, 1977 at 3:30 p.m. REPORTS: From the Finance Committee, February 24th and March 2nd, 1977, being Statements of Accounts payable in the total amounts of $278,638.42 and $192,077.71, respectively. Moved by Alderman Thompson: Seconded by Alderman Laking: That the reports of the Finance Committee, dated February 24th and March 2nd, 1977, recommending payment of Accounts totalling $278,638.42 and $192,077.71, respectively, be approved. Carried. From the City Clerk, March ist, 1977, advising that at the request -f Alderman Traboulay the preliminary report of the Commission of Inquiry on Property Assessment and Taxation, July 30th, 1976, was recently distributed to Council members, and that Alderman Traboulay intends to move a resolution endorsing Recommendation No. R-1 of the report which appears in paragraph 3.54 on Page 101 and instructing that the Clerk so notify the Minister of Municipal Affairs. Moved by Alderman Traboulay; Seconded by Alderman Laking: That the following recommendation set forth in the preliminary report of the Commission of Inquiry on Property Assessment and Taxation, July 30th, 1976, numbered R-1 and appearing on Page 101, Paragraph 3.54 of the Report, be endorsed: “We believe that the Provincial Government should consider committing itself publicly to paying 75% of the current and capital costs of the Public School System as a whole in British Columbia within a period of 5 years.
