Moved by Alderman Thompson: Seconded by Alderman Ranger: That as recommended in a report from Alderman M.A. Thompson, September 18th, 1975, upon consultation with the Fire Chief and Administration the appropriate funds be placed in the Provisional Budget to provide a full time Inspection and Training Officer as quickly as possible. Carried. Moved by Alderman Thompson: Seconded by Alderman Traboulay: That as recommended in a report from Alderman M.A. Thompson, September 18th, 1975, the Administration be directed to proceed with negotiations to bring about the following items set forth under the section of the "Keenlyside Report" on Fire Services in B.C. entitled "Organization and Training Section": (a) clearly defines life support services in the fire fighting contract. (b) declares that such services will be maintained in the event of a firefighters' strike; and (c) provides for the filing by the Union with the Labour Relations Board, in advance of any strike, of a plan indicating how the life support services are to be maintained during the impending work stoppage. Carried. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution, Alderman Thompson stated he felt it is imperative that the City should know exactly what its life support services are at all times. Moved by Alderman Tr apson: Seconded by Alderman Mabbett: That the Administration be directed to provide information re: wage parity comparisons between police and firemen and the possible adoption of a Council policy so stating the equality of wages and further advise regarding the Keenlyside "moonlighting" observations.Carried. Alderman Thompson, in speaking to comments made in the Keenlyside report under the section entitled "Firefighters' Wages ~ Future Negotiations", stated he felt that the Council should determine for itself whether "moonlighting" by members of the City's Fire Department is a problem.
