Many of the 500 could be in families already a member of P.C.A.AsA. This would mean that the vast bulk of the increase would have to be obtained from the commercial base of the city which is not increasing at the same rate as the population growth. The foregoing reflects the problems as they affect current member sports groups. A criticism of P.C.A.AWA., albeit unfair, has been the lack of sports available to girls. The criticism is unfair from two angles. It is not the function of P.C.A.A.A. to create new sporting associations, and newly formed sporting groups create an additional strain on the finances of P.C.A.A.A~ to the possible detriment of existing member sports. At the last Board Meeting of P.C.A.A.A., Port Coquitlam Tournament Bowlers were admitted to membership. This is a small group and there are no initial set-up costs. Girls Field Hockey and possibly a Boxing Club are preparing epplications for membership. In boti. these instances there are extensive first year costs. Even taking a minimum amount of equipment, it has all to be purchased this year. It cannot survive on partial supplies of equipment. In the case of Field Hockey, all participants will require uniforms etc. The estimated cost, based on 159 girls is approximately $2,500.00, of which about $750 will be recovered by was of registration fees, leaving P.C.A.AwA. an increase to meet of $1,750.00 for this sport alone in the current year. Next year the costs of Field Hockey, assuming no increase in registration would be considerably lower, Attached is the breakdown of the expenditu;: based on last years operation. . Years truly, aha -
