: : Wan a _ Yellowhead supports ~ local-resolutions A change of direction in _the manner of requesting federal funds for upgrading the Yellowhead Highway, was one of seventeen Tesolutions dealt with at the Annual Convention of the Yellowhead Interprovincial Highway _ Association recently in Edmonton, Delegates from: forty of the four-province sixty-five member centers attended and participated in a variety of discussions ranging from the need for upgrading in various regions of the 1900- mile route, to future policy and the Yellowhead’s place "in western access. - Paul Schab of -North Battleford was elected preaident, replacing Tan acKenzie of Portage la Prairie. Peter Lester, mayor of Prince Rupert was elected Association vice- president. Provincial vice-presidents are Dave Maroney, coun- cillor of Terrace for British Colambia; Jim Burgess, of Russel for Manitoba; Alderman George Dyck of Saskatoon for Saskat- chewan; and Tom Forgrave, coordinator for intergovernmental affairs of: Edmonton is vice- president for Alberta. He stressed :that despite Ot- tawa’s contention to the contrary, the Yellowhead ’ Highway is in fact a part of Canada's trana-Canada highways system, and that it will be playing an in- creasingly important role in weslern access as the Prince Rupert ocean part develops. Leo LeClerc, assistant deputy minister of Alberta Urban Transportation was the guest speaker at the banquet, and Marcel Roy, riiamentary secretary to he federal ministry of transport, represented Hon, Otte Lang at the convention. Two resolutions stressing the urgency of Intensified rebullding of the Yellowhead between Terrace and Prince Rupert, were passed unanimously: One resolution dealt with the urgent need of rebuilding the Little Fort to Kamloops stretch, and another stressed the development of Coquihala Pass Road, as a_ sorely needed: short-cut to link up. ‘with the Trans-Canada Highway at Hope, B.C.
