/8. September 22nd, 1975 Moved by Alderman Thompson: Seconded by Alderman Ranger: That a letter be sent to the Attorney-General of this Province commending his commissioning of the Keenlyside Report on Fire Services in B.C. and inquiring as to the timing of any action in particular in relation to the need for a strengthened Fire Marshal's Office and establishment of a Firefighter Training College within the Province. Carried, Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution, the Fire Chief advised that there is a great turnover in staff of the travelling training units due to low wages, and he also commented that the services of the training units are not available to paid Fire Departments. Alderman Thompson, in his report, referred to mention made in the Keenlyside Report of police equipment in relation to fire wherein it is stated "Police forces, the Provincial Emergency Programme, the Government Ambulance Service and the fire departments should understand their respective functions and capabilities and should work together in harmonious co-operation. In order to make this possible the role of each service in emergency circumstances should be clearly defined at the local level. The general public should be made aware of the function of fire departments and their relationship to the ambulance and other services. e This is most important in order that the public can call upon the services of the most appropriate priority basis." and he stated that in a discussion with Inspector Young he advises that the Coquitian R.C.M.P. Detachment does, in fact, carry such equipment as a fire extinguisher, blanket, etc., and at present are in the process of changing over to larger 5 1b. extinguishers in every car. The foregoing was then received for information. Alderman Traboulay then commended Alderman Thompson on his very comprehensive report, and the following motion was proposed: Moved by Alderman Ranger: Seconded by Alderman Traboulay: That a complete copy of the report from Alderman M.A. Thompson, September 18th, 1975, relating to the "Keenlyside Report" on Fire Services in B.C. be sent to the Attorney-General of the Province and indicate to him that preparation of the Report was worthwhile from the point of view of a local Council so that someone like Alderman Thompson could respond to it.
