Moved by Alderman Mabbett: Seconded by Alderman Traboulay: That the load limit of 25,000 lbs. g.v.w. recommended for the proposed Elgin-Shaughnessy truck route be referred back to the Public Works Committee for further study and report to Council. Carried. Alderman Mabbett stated he had read in the Columbian newspaper that Ald.Mabbett re pupil- the Coquitlam School Board had seen fit to go along with the reduced teacher rati reduction pupil-teacher ratio concept; however, the Provincial Government has program stated there would be no change in funding therefore, and he stated he feit this was an unsatisfactory way of doing things since the taxpayer would have to bear the 20.3% increase. Mayor Campbell stated he had spoken to one of the School Trustees, and apparently the School Board did not go for this, and Alderman Ranger advised that in the School Board's meeting minutes, it was stated that the Board was not hiring additional teachers to reduce the ratio. Moved by Alderman Laking: Seconded by Alderman Mabbett: That a letter be sent to the Board of School Trustees, School District No. 43 (Coquitlam), requesting clarification as to whether or not the School Board intends to reduce the teacherpupil ratio this year. Carried. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution, Alderman Traboulay stated he thought the Council should join with the School Board in approaching the Provincial Government for more funds to continue the reduction of the pupil-teacher ratio in District No. 43; however, Alderman Ranger pointed out that there is an average cf 10% absenteeism where he teaches, and stated his understanding that this situation is common
