It is hard that some children’s books are - becoming so expensive for it is a pity for them to miss ‘some experiences — perhaps a library will have this one — but do not miss it. Byrd Baylor offers children so much to think about — a new way to experience and enjoy the world around them. Here she answers the challenge that she might be lonely in the desert. “How can I be,’ she replies, ‘I am in charge of celebrations’, and she express the many things which give her cause for celebration. She expresses them with joy, love and poignancy in a way which makes the reader look anew, and Peter Parnell illustrates them with sympathy, clarity and striking imagery.
