Mr. I. R. Zahynacz, P. Eng. City Engineer City of Port Coquitlam 2580 Shaughnessy St. Port Coquitlam, B.C. V3C 2A8 Dear Mr. Zahynacz, Re: Evening, Sunday/holiday service to Citadel Heights T refer to Port Coquitlam Council's resolutions of June 15, 1993 regarding BC Transit's request to operate service on a portion of Eastern Drive (between Mary Hill Road and Western Drive) during evenings, Sundays and holidays. At that time Council passed three resoluticns: L. That Council not support the proposed revisions to BC Transit route #161 as described in the letter from BC Transit dated May 18, 1993. . That Council request BC Transit to investigate changing the existing BC Transit route #161 by having buses travel west on Citadel Drive, make a turnaround at Capital Court, then travel east on Citadel Drive and then retum to the original route travelling back to Port Coquitlam Centre via Pitt River Road/Eastern Drive/Westem Drive. 3. That Council request BC Transit to use smaller buses on the BC Transit #161 route. BC Transit has reviewed the requests of these resolutions with a view to providing some evening, Sunday and holiday service to the growing Citadel Heights area. Unfortunately, the routing proposal outlined in the recommendations cannot be accommodated - as it would require the use of additional vehicles. Projected ridership at these times would not meet the Vancouver Regional Transit Commission's minimum standards for productivity required to add service. Moreover, in a time of fiscal restraint, service expansiun, particularly izito low productivity time periods, is not an option which can be considered. BC Transit has also investigated the possibility of operating minibuses on route #161 during these times. As you are aware, there are currently several minibuses operating in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. As the minibus service does not operate in these areas during evenings, Sundays and holidays it is possible to operate the #161 service with minibuses at these times. It is, therefore, proposed to operate evening, Sunday and holiday service on route #161 using minibuses and at these times to extend the route to operate from Port Coquitlam Centre via ITEM | PAGE 31
