Re: Proposed Provincial Beverage Container Legislation

On February 8, 1993, Council considered the January 26 report of the North Shore
Recycling Coordinator commenting on the Proposed Provincial Beverage Container

Legislation.

Council subsequently passed the following:

"THAT the Honourable John Cashore, Minister of Environment, Lands and
Parks. be advised of Council’s support for an expanded deposit-refund system
that would include ail beverage containers;

THAT the Minister be encouraged to strongly consider legislation that will

encourage more refillable containers;

THAT the establishment of conveniently located depots or "enviro-centres"
that would be funded and operated by industry but administered by the

Province be recommended;

THAT a copy of this report be forwarded to the Beverage Industry Coalition,
the Brewery, Winery and Distillery Workers - Loc. 300, the BC Government

Employees’ Union and the GVRD;

AND WHEREAS the crucial element in any successful and economic waste
reduction and recycling policy is a guaranteed market;
