~Qe The present jaser the City owns is one of the first dial- a~grade lasers made. It is net self-level!ting like the new models. This makes setting up difficult and time consuming also, it is much more susceptible to vibration and movement than the self-levelling lasers are. An example is if we were to compact too close to the City's present laser, the smallest vibration could move both the line and grade of the laser. With the new self~levelling lasers they can recorrect their grade and for their line to go off they require much more movement in the laser itself. The City's present laser requires the cracked lens to be replaced and the unit to be made water tight before it can be usede This could be a major repair. | have seen demonstrations on the three lasers, each i self-levelling with a percentage grade indicator to two decimal points and is supplies with the necessary tripod and attachments we require. oO Cansel Survey equipment has a product that, in my mind, is longs Because of its length it could not be used in some applications. Also its alignment adjustment its very sma}! making It harder to set up. Their unit sells for $9,190 pitus 5% tare @ Orcades Equipment Ltd. has a good looking product, smal! and light weight, lots of alignment and grade adjustment. A problem with their laser is when the pipe slope is over 5% the laser must be tipped to the approximate s!ope the pipe is to be layed at, then the unit will self-adjust to the desired slope. This could take extra time in setting up as it is a trial ana error procedure. This unit can have minor repairs and servicing done jtocally but all major work must be sent back East, making repairs costly and time consuming. This unit sells for $11,380 !ess $1,400 for a trade-in aliowance on the City's laser as Is, making the total cost $9,980 plus 6% tax. (SB) The dial-a-grade presentiy rented by the City is sold by Conag Laser Alignments, this laser is serviced and repaired locally, has adequate adjustments, it works all its grades from a level position, making sey up easier. This unit ts the most widely used laser in the lower maintand at the present time. The dial-a-grade can be be purchased for $10,865 less $1,600 for the City's laser as is, making the total cost $9,265. Also Sonag Laser Alignment agreed to apply 1008 of the rent already paid and to a total of 3 months rent against the purchase of a new laser. At present we have spent approximately $1,400 on rent about 6 weeks making the purchase price of $7,865 plus 6%. This unit also comes with a two year warranty.
