Eng., City Engineer SUBJECT: Proposal for 1983 Unatlocated Capital - Public Works Committee, May 9th, 1983 RECOMMENDATION: That the fotlowing projects be included for construction in 1983 out of the $80,000 of unallocated Public Works Capital Funds available as a result of the variable mill rate option: . 1. $9,000 for construction of a sidewalk on the east side of Apel Drive from Toronto Street to Lynwood Avenue. $800 for the compietion of a 40-foot section of sidewalk missing from Coquitiam Avenue across from York Street. - The remainder for a pavement overlay program on as yet undesignated streets. BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: The Committee proposes an early allocation of funds in the unallocated Public Works Budget in order to atlow design To proceed. The projects described above have some merit in the opinion of the Committee and are described more fully below. The sidewalk on Apel Drive switches from the west to the east side of the road but there Is a gap between Toronto Street and Lynwood Avenue with no sidewalk of any kind. This section is adjacent to City-owned parkland and therefore wil! not be built by development. Ultimately the sidewalk should extend along the east side all the way to Coast Meridian Road. The cost of installing the full length of this sidewalk would be about $30,000 which is considered too rich for this year and some of the sidewalk may be obtainable in the future from developments. However, the shorter section adjacent to City parkland can be built for about $9,000. 31 Tele aaba ate ae
