Peters, City Engineer ITEM I Re: Gate at Paula Place Access by unauthorized vehicles into the gravel pit area at the south end of Mary Hill has always been a problem for residents of Paula Place. ‘For some time the School Board has been attempting to keep vehicles out by use of a chain across the end of Paula Place where temporary. road access to Hazel Trembath School is provided. wuiuivz anately, it has not been possible to keep the chain in place breause it is being cut by those wishing to have access to the gravel pit. The School Board is no longer prepared to replace the chain. We have considered the possibility of installing a steel gate with a protected lock which would be much more effective in preventing unauthorized access. The cost of construction and installation of such a gate is approximately $1,000. The School Board is quite prepared to continue to lock and unlock the gate as necessary for access to the school if we provide the gate. However, they will not provide the gate themselves since the problem of access is really a City problem. The Committee felt that it would be in the interest of the City to install the gate. The Committee recommends that the gate be installed and the necessary cost be taken From the unallocated funds in the Public Works Budget. ITEM II Re: Shaughnessy Street/Pitt River Road Intersection It has been brought to the attention of the Committee that there is a traffic hazard at the south side of tlhe above inter- section because there are two possible approach lanes to the
