THE CORPORATION OF-THE CITY GF PORT COQUITLAM PN A fF [ | U iN REPORT A — JUL 11 i977 TO: Mayor and Council July 8th, 1977 FROM: Public Works Committee Report from the Public Works Committee Meeting held Monday, July 4th, 1977 at 5:00 p.m. IN ATTENDANCE: Alderman E.W. Mabbett V.G. Borch, P. Eng. ITEM I Re: Shaughnessy Underpass ._ The following report was made to Council in the January 28th, 1977 Public Works Committee Report: "It is apparent that proper maintenance work is required for the road surface at the Shaughnessy Underpass. A proposal has been developed to plane and remove a two-inch depth of asphaltic concrete for a length of approximately 280 lineal feet and repave with a two-inch lift of asphaltic concrete for a distance of approximately 700 lineal feet. It is intended that this work will be carried out during off-peak traffic hours at night and it would mean that the underpass would be closed to traffic for one evening. This work will cost $8,420.00 and it is intended to charge the cost to Account No. 232311- Roadway Surfaces ~- Paved". i : As a result of further investigation the contractor now advises us that the scheme outlined in January will possibly not work and the contractor has recommended instead that excavation, back£il1l and paving would be more appropriate at an additional cost of approximately $2,000.00. The Committee feels that this work should now not be proceeded with this year because: 1. The nature of the proposal has changed to the point where tenders should be called. SATIN ad SL earned ato tea 2. The continuing uncertainties and difficulties with traffic movements resulting from the Lougheed ilighway Widening Project suggest that this would be a bad year to undertake this work. The committee will be placing this work in the 1978 Budget submission. Respectfully submitted, JA. Seek . V.G. Borch, P. Eng., City Engineer.
