No need to be teed off Dear Sir: In response to the recent news article “Harder well water fouls tca'’, I was surprised at the number of people who approached me and wanted to discuss the problem. Some of them wanting to know what I was doing to remedy the problem. Due to limited resources (with no lab to do further re- search) as to really what was causing the precipitate form- ing in tea and to a lesser degree in coffee, I was unable to pursue this matter further. ~The city’s suggestion that it is caused by the hardness of the water is not totally satisfactory. Yes, it is caused by something that is in the water, but why should tea and the likes cause a precipitate, Could it be that the tea dyes the already suspended matter and this causes it to gather to- gether and form a visible precipitate? The fact that a filter will remove a substance from the . Water to improve the visual aspect of tea points to there is ' something in the water. Perhaps a yet finer filter may im- prove the water further. This or any filter will not make water soft(er). Soft water CORRESPONDENCE FOR THE TERRACE STANDARD The Mail Bag can only be achieved by distillation or other sophisticated method used by water bottlers. Having lived in Sas- katchewan where the water was so hard that one was not able to make suds when shampooing or washing ones hands, we were still able to pour a clear cup to tea. It is not only the taste of the new tea, as suggested by the city officials, that is disgusting, but also the visual aspect of it. Going ta another brand is not the answer, It seems that all regular teas do this, not as much with the likes of herbal teas. I offer anyone a cup of coffee or tea made from bottled water. - Claude C, Chepil, Terrace, B.C, Editor’s note: Mr. Chepil has his liquids on offer at Colour Works. Not being fair to the landlords Dear Sir: In regards to the Oct. 16 story regarding tenants uniting against a local landlord, [ am a long time tenant of Linda and Lloyd Wittkowski of Woodland Apartments, T have seen many windows, doors etc. being fixed, ] have also seen within weeks the same windows, doors etc. get- ting broken again due to parties and fighting going on. We also have had repairs done in our unit. It has taken a few days to get done, but once it is fixed it stays fixed, I feel it’s up to the tenants fo look after it. _ With 66 units and 66 families of approximately four people per household, having eight or even 11 people saying things don’t get done is therefore not fair to downgrade the Woodlands. We've been in Woodlands since Nov. 1992 and our rent has only gone up twice in that time, I feel that is more than fair. S. Mann, Terrace, B.C. MLA defends forest revenue shift An open letter to Linda Hawes: Dear Linda Hawes: Thank you for your letter expressing concems about the reallocation of funds from Forest Renewal B.C, - AsT painted out in a letter which weat out to all my con- Stituents the decision to reallocate funds was made by the board of FRBC. In the last paragraph of your letter you re- quest that I ‘vote no to robbing the forest industry for their, and subsequently all our, futures.’’ Your choice of the word ‘robbing’ makes this at best, a highly partisan political statement. So permit me a candid response, ’ During the last election the Campbell Liberal opposition Dear Sir: -Mike Scott has been quoted as being critical of the costs involved in sending government officials to the signing of the agreement-in-principle of the Nisga’a land claim. The absence of Mr. Scott, who is meant to be the MP representing Skeena, was noted more than once by the ‘speakers atthe event. are * Judging" from: Mr, Scott’s persistent opposition to the ~ www. kermode.net * email » internet access «web pages * training aS Terrace’s only locally owned full service internet provider. For the rest of us they promised cuts to educaiion services and an obvious shift in the tax burden to working British Columbians. That did not dissuade you from running the campaign for the Liberal candidate. I need no lessons from the official opposition on matters of conscience. It has always been my contention that the forest resource belongs to the pecple not the forest indusiry. If revenue form the forest industry is retumed to provide necessary services to the general population then I believe I am iden- tifying with the people and should it come toa vole, I be- Heve I am in touch with the majority opinion on this issue. Perhaps they could consider the concept of one MP for all the voters in a riding. * Dr. Isaae Sobol, Vancouver, B.C, ranevine Coffee Senvice Phone 638-0877 Business Image Design « Small Volume Publishing * 4 Desktop Publishing by Lee Burkitt (ci Computer Tutoring Nghe Oosl Print Design sma.
