way to excitement as Christmas Day nears. These children are from the Child Development
Centre and stopped by Skeena Mall to add a few decorations to thelr third annual ‘Tree of
Lights" last week. They and thelr friends at the center hope you will stop by and purchase
some lights for their tree because all proceeds to towards supporting the center and every
light added helps make their future a little bit brighter. The Tree of Lights will be lit this Fri-
day at 7:30 p.m.

The behavior of these
muskrats, though, may be a
statement on the effectiveness of
Terrace’s new sewage treatment
facility, It seems these furry little
creatures seek out shelter come

old beaver lodge sometimes do

fresh mountain river or stream.
But in this: case, the muskrats
apparently decided the lagoon
was more attractive then the
nearby Skeena River.

But muskrats are very active
tunnelers and for the city’s
Public Works department this
presented a problem. Muskrats
have long sharp claws and love
to dig. So much so, in fact, that

just what these muskrats in-

tended to do in the banks of our
lagoon, Breed. They can have up .

to four litters a year with as
many as 10 of the little diggers in
each. Considering the damage
that hundreds could do, Public
Works obviously. had no other
choice but to remove mom and

dad. So even though tourists.

may still find Kermodes in the
dump, don’t send them to the
lagoon because it’s now void of
life... the fur-bearing kind,

anyway.
