Alderman Traboulay stated his opposition to the i5% increase vor subscribers as proposed by the B.C. Telephone Company. Moved by Alderman Traboulay: Seconded by Alderman Laking: That the Canadian Radio Television and Telecommunications Commission be instructed to restrict the 15% subscriber rate increase proposed by the B.C. Telephone Company in its application to the Commission to 8%, which is the allowable maximum prescribed by the Federal Anti-Inflation Carried. CORRESPONDENCE & PETITIONS: Downtown Merchants From the Downtown Merchants of Port Coquitlam, being a petition re parking & st. lighting impts. requesting improvements to the lighting and parking faci*‘*ties in the downtown area. Alderman Mabbett, in speaking to the petition, advised that a report will be forthcoming on the street-lighting aspect on or before March 15th, and that at the Thursday, January 27th, 1977 meeting of the Public Works Committee a date would be set to discuss the parking situation with rerresentatives of the Downtown Merchants; followed by a report thereon to Council. Alderman Ranger stated he was strongly opposed to the suggestion made by the Downtown Merchants that the bus stops be moved from the City Hall area to the Recreation Centre on Wilson Avenue, and members of Council generally agreed with his view in that regard.
