along residential streets. The second reason for creating and
charging for permit Parking would be if it was desired to
discourage commuters in order. to make the lot available for
employees of the downtown businesses. This was the griginal
intention in creating permit parking. However; from the lack
of sales of permit parking and the empty condition of the lot;
it is obvious that this also is not a valid reason at this
time.

Rather than driving the commuters onto the
residential streets, the Committee recommends that the permit
Parking be removed or the permit fee be eliminated so that
commuters once again are able to use the Maple Drive Parking
lot and provide relief to the parking at the Rec Center. .
