Roders is part of the history of Terrace, and she's written a poem to express her feelings about our city. A tribute to Terrace ’'M SURE many of you know Tilly Roders, Jan’s mother. Well Tilly has written a lovely poem for Terrace, and I would like to share it with you. But first I would like to tell you a litle about Tilly, and her home, The Willows. The Willows Apartment building first opened its doors in January, 1976, with 40 units. Tilly Roders was one of the first tenants, moving in that February. Al the same time The Wil- was held to name the build- ing, Tilly sent in her sugges- tion. She felt it should be named after the beautiful willow trees that surrounded the place. Her suggestion won, but since then the wil- lows have ail been cut down, For the last ten years Mel and Cecile have been the caretakers at the Willows. The tenants love them both for their kindness and the love they share. They help make the Willows a place to call home. ~ HERE ‘N THERE YVONNE MOEN the Willows, Tilly shares Society is already planning Christmas celebrations. I remember the rocks I thought had contained a fortune untald, And the disappointment on being told by an old timer it was only, ‘‘fools gold.”’ When after poking around and I sit down on an old rusted plow, in reverie I see a homestead, a few chickens and the conventional cow. : I begin to wonder then, of whose rough and soiled hands, had tilled this idyllic part of the land, For we, who live here now, Their memory we cherish.
