TILLY RODERS stands in front of the building she helped named. Roders is part
of the history of Terrace, and she's written a poem to express her feelings about

our city.

A tribute to Terrace

’'M SURE many of you
know Tilly Roders, Jan’s
mother.

Well Tilly has written a
lovely poem for Terrace,
and I would like to share it
with you.

But first I would like to
tell you a litle about Tilly,
and her home, The Willows.

The Willows Apartment
building first opened its
doors in January, 1976, with
40 units.

Tilly Roders was one of
the first tenants, moving in
that February.

Al the same time The Wil-

was held to name the build-
ing,

Tilly sent in her sugges-
tion. She felt it should be
named after the beautiful
willow trees that surrounded
the place. Her suggestion
won, but since then the wil-
lows have ail been cut
down,

For the last ten years Mel
and Cecile have been the
caretakers at the Willows.
The tenants love them both
for their kindness and the
love they share. They help
make the Willows a place to
call home.

Society is already planning
Christmas celebrations.

The society is inviting
charity groups who are in-
terested in raising money al
that time of year to sign up-
to contribute a decorated
Christmas tree,

The tree wil be auctioned
off during the Festival of
Trees, Dec. 7-9. Proceeds
from the auction will go
back to the charity group,
Price has already lined up
about five trees and has
room for another five.

She is also looking for
donations of wreaths which
will also be auctioned off to
the public.

terested in decorating a tree

My Home Town

A thriving town is Terrace and it embraces, a population of many races.

Trouble is at a minimum for you see, we all live in comparative harmony,

It’s a town where cagles swoop down Jike a dart from a quiver. To catch another
creature caught feeding down by the river. '
Natives spearing the salmon as we gaze in awe, at the traditions laid down by
their elders during the years before.

The sky at times is a joy to behold, when a setting sun transforms the blue inta

When moming awakens us who live in the valley below, we find the now rising sun
has tinted the mountains with a rose like glow.

Bears roam the forest along with the moose and deer. We respect their habilat by
making sure we slay clear.

I remember the rocks I thought had contained a fortune untald, And the disappointment on
being told by an old timer it was only, ‘‘fools gold.”’

When after poking around and I sit down on an old rusted plow, in reverie I see a
homestead, a few chickens and the conventional cow. :

I begin to wonder then, of whose rough and soiled hands, had tilled this idyllic part

of the land,

For we, who live here now, Their memory we cherish. Along with the first pioneer who
molded this tranquil place and named it, ‘‘Terrace.’’

There is another mountain that can be seen from the town. Where the famed slecping
beauty can also be found.

Lying beneath a blanket of virgin snow. She waits for the kiss of the sun, and for

the howling north winds to go.

We also wait for the coming of spring and for the leaves of the trees and the

flowers to shoot forth. To brighten our fair city — the jewel of the north.
