That’s just the shot Gordon Oates got lo try in the fourth end of his Monday Mixed league final against the Kirkaldy rink. With the rocks conveniently lined up in front of the house, Oates got the weight just right to bump one to the eight foot behind cover and take three. That answered Kirkaidy’s trio of the previous end and pul Oates 5-3 up. The leams exchanged singles over the next four ends but when Oates succeeded on an open draw for three more in the ninth and a 10-5 lead, the Kirkaldy rink de- cided it was time to shake hands. The game was one of six league finals played Friday, March 25 as the club wound up the season. Producing one of {he best games were Dwayne Melanson and Fred Marten in the Friday Mixed ‘A’ side showdown, With hammer controlling who scored, the téams exchanged points for a 4-4 deadlock after six, Melanson finally broke the pat- tem in the next with a steal of one, bul Marten was quick to ans- wer with a deuce. Melanson replied in kind to head home one up but without last rock. With Melanson taking the op- portunity provided by a missed take out to throw up. guards on his eight foot counter, Marien came in heavy on both his draw at- tempts to go down 8-6, ‘AA’ PeeWees The Friday Mixed ‘B’ match up saw Don McColl jump to @ twa point lead after two and open the gap to 5-2 with a steal of one in the sixth. . The Kruisselbrink tink tightened it up with a single and steal of another but McColl put it away with a deuce in the ninth and then ran his opponents out of rocks in the last for a 7-4 win. The remaining Friday Mixed final was a short lived affair, Kuemper breaking the game wide open with a four in the third and sleal of three in the next. Opponent Kozak shook hands after six on the wrong side of an 8-2 scoreline, The tally was the same in Men’s league ‘B’ side action though it took Dave Dennis longer to put Keith Trask away, After giving up singles in each of the first two ends, Trask hit and peeled to blank the next then tied it up in the fourth, Dennis then took control with a two and steals of three and one for an 8-2 victory. The last battle of the night saw Ron Townley secure the Men’s ‘A’ club championship, a two in the ninth giving him a three point buffer over coming home that Kevin Kelly couldn’t overcome, The win gave Townley a double on the season having already curled to the Tuesday Men’s teg- ular season title. Other regular season winners were Dan Fisher (Thursday Men’s), Rusty Blanes (Ladies), Joe Turer (Friday Mixed). and Kirkaldy (Monday Mixed). Last week members of the Tuesday Coffee League sur- prised Jan McKinnon with a party to mark her 80th birthday. One of the five founders of the Terrace Curling Associa- tion, she was made a life mem- ber of the club when it moved into the present building in 1973. McKinnon was sidelined ear- lier this season by a fall on the ice just before Christmas. Although not seriously In- jured, some have tried to per- suade her it’s time to hang up her broom. But McKinnon enjoys the game too much to mush into retirement. “We'll see in September, but I think I'd really like to curl another season,’’ she says. ‘Some restrictions may apply, IF YOU DRINK, DON'T RID Scott Welch , ODOUR CONTROL SERVICES PET ODOUR - extraction to prevent carpet staining - ‘UN-DO' to neutralize odour SMOKE ODOUR - Thermo-fogging — - odour conteractants WATER/SEWER _ - drying services 5 TE - ‘MICROBAN' to control mildew gummy Cel and‘bacterial growth e ULETHICATION G2 635-3558 eo “Your Member Owned Pro Sop ci 5 Is .
