She won eight events and took silver in two others, The two Terrace Bluebacks, 10-year-old dazzlers — Jocelyn Coxford and Cory Holland — continued their winning ways as well. Jocelyn took gold in eight races and bronze in a ninth. Cory won all seven of his races — in many cases by as much as 10 seconds. In the 1l5-and-up group, Prince Rupert’s Misty Watson ran off five victories, while eight-year-old Christina Holland of Terrace won all five of her attempts. Another Rupert 15-and-over Stalwart — Heather Bell — came through with four gold, four silver and two bronze medals. They came to watch time trials, then some stock events and four jam- boree races, including a 20-lapper. - Speedway opens Some opening day confusion led to regular races being cancelled, and replaced by four jamborees as the Terrace stock car racing season got underway May 8 at the Terrace Speedway. ‘C’ class trophy dashes were completed with Jean Pearson and Katy Floyd taking hobby and street, respectively. Don Pearson took the sports- man event, while Brian Copeland won the ‘A’ hobby and Kevin Hickman the street in ‘C’ class. ‘In the 10-lap jamboree a number one race, it was Pearson for the sportsman, Copeland the hobby and Phil Truscott the street. ; The second 10-lap jamboree had Al Weber winning sports- man, Brian Copeland the hobby and Kevin Hickman the street. Jamboree number three — another 10-lap race — had Pear- son, Wes Patterson and Truscott getting the flag for sportsman, hobby and street, respectively. The 20-lap jamboree went to Pearson, Hickman. Copeland and the 13-and-14 age group, posted four gold, four silver, and one bronze. . Several other swimmers in the area were medal winners. Terrace Review — Wednesday, May 18, 1988 9 Youth soccer season opens More than 200 parents, relatives and friends gathered May 7 at Skeena school grounds’ for the official opening cere- _monies of the 44-team Terrace Youth Soccer Association. The more than 500 youngsters were marched onto the field by the Terrace Pipes and Drums band where they formed a huge horseshoe in team order so that fans could see them all, and they could’ acknowledge their - in- troductions. — Joan Brady conducted the ceremonies. Alderman Danny Sheridan brought greetings from the City. This season will see few games on Saturdays. With too many " youngsters now involved in jobs for the summer, and a difficulty in lining up referees, officials switched several divisions to evening action during the week. The under-seven and under- eight divisions will continue playing their games at E.T. Ken- ney school grounds on Saturday mornings. The under-10 division will play Saturday games at Cassie Hall grounds. | The under-16 boys have Mon- day evenings at Skeena grounds for their games. The under-14 division moves into Tuesday nights at Skeena, while the under-12 division is at Skeena on Thursday nights. The girls’ division plays | Wednesday evenings at Skeena. Divisions playing Saturday games will play mid-week con- -tests when they’re faced with a holiday weekend. The association has 44 teams registered — the same number as last year. Extra . Games i u
