THE WESTERN CANADIAN LUMBER WORKER For International Board Member WALTER ALLEN Upon discharge from the R.C.N., Walter Allen went to work in Alberni Plywood; and was elected Trustee of Port Albemi Local in 1948. In 1949 he was elected to the Regional Executive Board, a position he still holds, and he has served on the Coast Negotiating Committee from 1949 until the present. He was first elected President of Local 1-85 in 1950, and still holds that position. He has been a member of the International Executive Board, and is now the Chairman of the International Pension Board. For International Board Member SAM A. (BILL) MUIR Entered the industry as a sawmill worker in 1946, and became active in Local 1-118 of the IWA immedi- ately. From 1950 to 1955, he served that Local as third, second and first vice-president. He was President of the Victoria Labour Council from 1953 to 1955. In 1955, he moved to Kelowna and became Business Agent and Financial Secretary for Local 1-423, positions that he still holds. He is now an International Board Member. For Alternate Int. Board Member MORRIS NORDBLAD Entered the industry as a logger in 1951, later moved to the shake and shingle section, and finally to the sawmill section. In 1957, he joined his Local Union’s Safety Com- mittee, elected Plant Committee member in 1959, Vice- Chairman of Plant Committee in 1961, and Chairman in 1962. He held the position of Plant Chairman until elected Financial Secretary and Business Agent of Local 1-367, a position that he now holds. He is a certified steamfitter-pipefitter. For Secretary-Treasurer FRED FIEBER (Elected by acclamation) An active member of Local 1-357, IWA, New West- minster, Fred Fieber was appointed International Or- ganizer in February, 1948. He was Financial Secretary of Local 1-71, IWA, the Loggers’ Local from 1949 to 1960. He was elected District 3rd Vice-President in 1951, and was re-elected in 1953, 1955, 1957, 1959 and 1960. He was appointed the Regional Secretary-Treasurer in 1961 following the death of the former Secretary- Treasurer, George Mitchell, and re-elected in 1962, 1964 and 1966. He is one of the Union Trustees on the IWA Forest ‘Industry Health and Welfare Plan. He is also a past President of the Board of the Medical Services As- _ sociation. WILSON Bill, upon discharge from the Royal Canadian Air Force went to work in the logging section of the forest industry where he quickly became active on Camp Committees. In 1953 he was elected a Trustee of Local 1-71 and in 1955 was appointed one of the Business Agents of that Local Union. In 1957 Bill was elected Vice-President of his Local and the same year took over the President's position. He was re-elected to this position in 1959, 1961 and 1963. In 1965 he was elected Financial Secretary of his Local Union and has retained that post since. He was also the Regional Executive Board Member from 1957 to 1965 and presently holds the position of Alternate Regional Executive Board Member. For International Board Member ROD BEATON Rod went to work in the forest industry in 1933 prior to the formation of the IWA. He joined the Union in 1941 and soon became active in Local Union affairs. He served as a Vice-President of Local 1-217 from 1942 to 1944. At that time he joined the P.L.I.B. In 1947 he was elected as Executive Member of Local 1-288 and in 1953 was elected its President. He has retained this position ever since. Rod is also the Local Union’s Regional Executive Board Member and a member of the Coast Negotiating Committee. For Alternate Int. Board Member FRANK SIMPSON ‘r Frank-entered the labour movement in 1942 as a member of the Seamen's Union and remained in this union until 1945. - From 1945 to 1951 he was an active member of the Distillery, Rectifying, and Winemakers Union, AFL-CIO, where he served one term as Local President. He has been an IWA member for the past 17 years and is presently the First Vice-President of Local 1-357 and also Plant Chairman of the Canadian Forest Prod- ucts Plywood and Hardboard Division. Frank is 43 years of age and married with two children. For Six-Year Trustee JOHN SQUIRE (Elected by acclamation) John Squire joined the WA in 1942 while working as a machinist at A.P.L. He was elected Financial Sec- retary of Local 1-85 in 1948. He resigned that position in 1951, and was elected Vice-President in 1952. He served on the Port Alberni City Council from 1950 to 1953. Be He was elected CCF M.L.A. for the riding of Alberni — in 1952, and re-elected in 1953, 1956 and 1960. He is currently Business Agent and Recording Sec- as Regional Trustee. —
