wee enn Ee eee oe ree -2- consents in order to get title to the small piece of York Street between Coquitlam Avenue and Suffolk Street. 4. Road Abondonment - McKenzie Avenue. The Committee received a request from the owners of land adjacent to McKenzie Avenue off Pitt River Road to have the City offer this road allowance for sale. (See map attached). Half of this road allowance was abondoned by a previous plan and an annexed to the owners on the south side of McKenzie Avenue. This request comes from the owners to the north and is anticipated that they would be prepared to purchase this remaining road allowance and have it annexed to their property. At the present time there is a sewer line running from Pitt River Road to the lane running to the west of Pitt River Road and if the City obtains title and offers the property for sale it would be subject to the following terms. (1) Consolidation with the adjoining parcel. (2) The purchaser to provide any utility servicing that might be required. (3) Subject to the purchaser Leing responsible for relocating the existing sewer line if future subdivision is contemplated. The Committee recommends that we take xuhe necessary steps to abondon this portion of McKenzie Street and obtain title in the name of the City. The Committee will report futher at a later date on evaluation of the parcel if it is to be offered for sale. 3. Sale of Property to the School Board. Council requested the Land Sales Committee's recommendation on the sale of two pieces of land to the Schecl Board, one on Coquitlam Avenue and the other on Reeve Street between Kelly and Hawthorne. Both of these sales have been reviewed by the Planning and Zoning Committee and the Finance Committee and have been recommended for sale. The Land Sales Committee recommends that the property on Coquitlam Avenue required by the School Board for the expansion of the James Park School site be sold to the Board and that its value be established by an independent appraiser acceptable to the Board and the City. It is understood that the Board use the firm of Penny and Keenieyside and this firm would be acceptable to the Land Sales Committee if proposed. The other piece of Land is located on Reeve Street between Kelly and Hawthorne and is required by the Board for future school site for the downtown area, The Committee feels that if the property is sold to the Board they would like to see some assurance that the site will be utilized for school purposes in the near future. This land is presently in the flood plain and as such is only suitable for school use, recreation use or some industrial use. As the City own all of the surrounding property it would be difficult to control this parcel if the School Board decided in the future that it was not to be used for school construction and disposed of it to private interests. The Committee feels that it would be better to reserve tnis land for school purposes and keep it in the name of the City until such time as the Board are ready to go ahead with school construction. The Committee recommends that specific information be requested from the School Board on the timing of school construction on this site, before sale is contemplated and that the site be reserved for school purposes in the interm.
