| This report is recommending that City Counci! accept the

proposed budget from GVRD. The proposed budget is slightly

less than last years.

The work program being proposed by GVRD has three areas of
particular benefit To the Planning Department; they are , |
: information, trend analysis, and continuing

) providing census
work on development strategy (economic development). Gensus ;
information is required by the Pianning Department for both

long range planning and for community promotion. in looking at

other information sources, our experience has been that GVRD is |

| the least expansive, ie most of the other sources are beyond

| cour financial reach.

Trend analysis work carried out during the last year includes @
20 year economic forecast, bulletins about recent trends and a
large amount of work relating to traffic. During the coming | :

year, as more census intormation is released work wil] be in

+hat area.

Development strategy, tying together the various projects and

planning programs, is the focus recommended tor GYRD Planning :
by the various Directors of Planning for next year. This
includes a ‘sarge component of aconamic development. For
example, Stevenson Kellogg Ernest and whinney have been hired
to study what is being done in the area and to propose

oe improvements.
