WHEREAS, the easy conveyance of veople and goods
is essential for a nation to achieve greatness
and strength, and

WHEREAS, the Province of British Columbia is urgently
in need of greatlv increasing its network
or highways to facilitate the easy and widespread
transportation of people and goods throughout

its domain, and

WHEREAS, the Yellowhead Highway is now becoming a
new and important link in the British Columbia
highway system and a vital connection between
the Province and to neighbours to the east and.
the rest of Canada, and

WHEREAS the two routes followed by the Yellowhead
Highway in British Columbia are of eaual
importance to the internal links within the
Province and to the external connections of
the interior of Canada to coastal ports, and

WHEREAS, the construction of new princival highways
' . and the upgrading of existing routes, have their
“xipple effect" which eventually benefits areas
that are distant from the specific highways, and

WHEREAS, the improvement of any highways part of a
highways system exerts a beneficial effect on
tourism which far transcends the immediate area, and

WHEREAS, the uograding of ali marts of the Yellowhead
Highway system can contribute to the establishment
of attractive "circle tours" for tourists (eg.
Hone, the Canyon, Cache Creek, Kamloops, Tete Jaune
Cache, Prince Rupert, Prince George, Ashcroft,
Highland Valley, Merritt the Coquihalla to Hope)
and

WHEREAS the completion of the Coquihalla link in the
Yellowhead Highway will effect important savings
in mileage: driving time, costs and gasoline in connecting
the lower mainland to northern British Columbia
and the interior of Canada, whether via the
Yellowhead or the Trans Canada Highway, and
