Wilp Wilxo’oskwhl Nisga’a offers post secondary pro- grams in the Nass in conjunction with the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC). The convocation ceremony was held at the Gitlakda- mix Recreational and Cultural Centre in New Aiyansh ‘with Nisga'a dancers as the guest entertainment, Executives from the Nisga’a Lisims Government were in attendance as were chief councillors from the village governments, officials from UNBC and special guest Dr. Pederson of UNBC who worked: with the Wilp Wilxo’oskwhl Nisga’‘a. . The WWN is also affiliated with Royal Roads Uni- ‘versity in Victoria and delivers a university-college en- trance preparation program tied to Northwest Community College. In addition to the 2003 graduates, the WWN now has 13 peaple who have completed their Bachelor of Arts: First Nations Studies- Nisga’a degree, one person who has completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree and 31 people who have completed Certificates in Nisga’a stu- ‘dies and General First Nations Studies. (Next To SAAN) Van driver released POLICE HAVE released a local man they detained for questioning in connection with a reported incident of a May 29 at- tempted child abduction. The man was picked up May 30 and released later that day. “We just don’t have enough evidence at this time to recommend charges,” says RCMP Staff Sgt. Jas Basi, “Right now we are still continuing with our investiga- tion.” The man was detained after police is- sued a warning-to. area schools stemming from the report by a Hemlock St. resident. A mother said she spotted a driver of a white van talking to her eight-year-old son in a driveway at 10 p.m. May 29, Police said the stranger reportedly tried to entice the boy into the vehicle with candy, saying he was a- “good person.” The woman described the driver as a Caucasian male, approximately 50 years of age, driving an older model white GMC extended van with black lower pa- nels, The man fled the scene when he saw the boy’s mother approaching, police said. “People are safe i in this community but people should always take precautions as to where their kids are playing and who they're playing with,” said Basi. “We should always speak to our kids about talking to strangers and taking candy from strangers.
