With a project cost of more than $10 million, the 4,309 square metre campus is scheduled to be ready by - the summer of 2004 based on a construction start of this - spring. Excavation, site work and building plans were well advanced in the spring of 2001 until the newly-elected Liberal government put it and other college construction : projects across the province on hold. College and Prince Rupert city officials then lobbied : . vigorously for a revival and approval from the province . followed last September. ; ‘The college had already spent $2.5 million on the project before the 2001 decision to halt work. A large hole in the ground for foundations was subsequently - filled in. The delay meant the college had to continue to pay approximately $400,000 for various leased facilities around Prince Rupert. Tenders close Feb. 6 and interested contractors toured the site last week. “Opening the bid process is a major step forward in the development of the new Prince Rupert campus,” said college president Stephanie Forsyth last week.
