B6 - The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, February 11, 1998 Terrace takes midget tourney | TERRACE’S MIDGET rep hockey team put on a great show this weekend, beating out visiting Kitimat in the best-of-three series. Terrace won the first game Friday night, 5-3. And the boys didn’t Jet up Saturday, scoring first on a powerplay goal by Brett Downie less than three minutes into the game. The assist went to Scott Rigler. Kitimat quickly became frustrated and took another penalty just minutes later. To add to their troubles, Kitimat’s goalie then mouthed off to the ref, and received a second penalty to give Terrace a two-man ad- vantage, And they didn’t take long to capitalize. Jason Hamer scored Terrace’s second power play goal of the peri- od seconds later to go up 2- 6. Brett Downie and David Boomer got the assists. In the second period War- ren Eichhorst made it 3-0 on assists from Tyrel Arm- strong and David Boomer. But shut-out hopes died midway through the third when Jonathan Egans scored for Kitimat. And that’s the way it ended — Terrace took the game 3-1 and the series 2-0. TERRACE ALMOST had a shutout in their second of a two-game tournament against Kitimat over the weekend. Community Forest Pilot Project Invitation for Expression of Interest Under the Jobs and Timber Accord, the government of British Columbia committed to design and pilot three new community forest tenures through the Community Forest Pilot Project, An advisory committee was established to make recommendations to the minister of forests on models for the new tenures, criteria for selecting pilot sites, suitable areas to test the models and ways to monitor the pilots and evaluate the final outcomes. In the spring of 1998, following the introduction of necessary legislation, the minister intends to select three communities as pilot sites. The minister of forests invites all interested coinmunilies to submit an Expression of Interest to take part in the pilot project. This is the initial stage of the application phase that adds all applicants to a list for the next stage, which will be announced at a later date. Interested communities, including those that have made previous submissions, should submit an Expression of Interest on or before February 28, 1998, For more information, please contact the nearest Ministry of Forests’ regional or district office, or visit the Ministry of Forests Internet site (hitp://www.for.gav.be.ca). BRITISH COLUMBIA 3088 780 ® Have you ever thought about the number of paycheques you'll reccive before your retire? If you haven’t , here’s a sobering thought; a 25-year old who plans to relire at age 65 has 960 paydays left. A 45 year old has only 480. Assuming that you will receive 24 paycheques a year for the rest of your working life, how many do you have leit? Now consider how much you save from each paycheque towards your retirement. For many Canadians, a paycheque barely stretches over the two week pay period. The fact is, most of us have limited time and resources before we retire. But it’s important to remember that we may live another 30 years after retirement. That challenge is to bridge the gap between how much we can put aside for retirement and how much we'll actually need. There ate three ways you can bridge the gap: by saving more, by working longer or by choosing growth investments. Saving more is a good idea, but it’s always possible, especially if you're paying a mortgage or raising children. Depending on you job, working after 65 may not be possible. In any event, it’s difficult to teli now how you'll feel about working when you're 65. And even if you do work longer, it’s better to work by choice than because of financial needs. That leaves growth investments: putting al least some of your money in the stack market, where there's potential for greater returns, returns that can out pace inflation. Many people are intimidated by the complexities of the stock market. They are more comfortable with another, casier way to invest: equity mutual funds, which offer professional money management "Personal — , Primerica Financial Services In Terrace and diversification. Historically, well-managed equity funds have outperformed other types of investments over the long term. In addition, there are a variety of mutual funds available, which give — you a an “opportimit sity 10 choose funds, that match your risk tolerance and time horizon. . “Ia most cases people eama finite number of paycheques,” says Elizabeth Hayle, vice-president of marketing at Trimark. “So, if saving more or working longer aren’t options for you, you'll have to make your savings work harder. That means starting early with a Tepular investment program so your money has a longer time to grow, It also means looking at financial vehicles like equities and equity mutual funds because they offer the best opportunity for growth over time.” Start Counting Your Paycheques The earlier you invest in equity mutual funds, the more growth potential your money will have. For example, if at age 25, you invest $2,000 per year (at the beginning of each year) for 10 years and then stop investing, at 10 per cent return you'll have aver $610,000 at age 65. But, if you wait until you're 35 and invest $2,000 for the next 30 years, you'll have about $360,000. That's a loss of $250,000. By taking the time now to find the best long-term consistent retum, you can improve your financial future significantly. Even one percentage point can make a dramatic difference over time. If, at the beginning of each year, you place $5,000 in an investment thal earns eight per cent over 30 years, rather than one that earns aine per cent, you lose out over $131,000. “There are (hree things you can do with your paycheque: spend il, lend jt or invest it,” says Hoyle. “Before you spend another paycheque, think about how many you have left.” How many paycheques do you have left? i 4 we % By up 4 x” 1% tu] ry] ie 45 n Le) a 5 Ea) a w “Based on two paycheques per month Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments at: 635-7800 or 1-800-295-7676 arcadipfs@kermode.net Your unit value and investment fettim will fluctuate, Important information about any mutual fund is contained in ils simplified prospectus, Read yaur Prospectus carefully before investing. tiple 4 TIMES: PO Bor 433, Terrace BE, V8G 487 Terrace Minor Fastball be Terrace Minor Fastball (formerly softball) : invites boys & girls born between : 1979 and 1993 to our annual 3 registration as outlined below. +1 Players for House teams, Rep teams, or those interested 1 in coaching are urged to attend this second registration.
