Municipal Council 1983-12-15 and delivers it virtually crystal clear to the river. Notwithstanding this single improvement, the Cewe mine has also built a complete mine drainage system which treats 10-14 cfs by 24-hour settling before being ‘released to the Coquitlam River. The recent settling pond efficiency results are routinely approximately 75%. We are currently ordering improvements to that system and hope to see figures in the high 80%'s this winter. We are also working with the Cewe organization to install a groundwater infiltration pond, similar to Allard mine's northern pit, over the next 18 months which should result in a zero mine discharge in 1985. oe , i All in all, the last two years' work has. resulted in an enormous improvement in the water quality of the Coquitlam River, which is demonstrable on actual river readings. Most knowledgeable observers of the river would agree that although the river is not yet perfect, much improvement has occurred over the last three years. Attached please find a letter from the Port Coquitlam & District Hunting ¢& Fishing Club dated May 3, 1983, recognizing these improvements which might be of interest to you. If we can be of further assistance, please let us know. Perhaps I could attend Council and answer your. questions directly. Sincerely, — Don R. Hehn, Regional Director, Lower Mainland Region.
