yOu NG TRAVELLERS Angie Sparks, Kip P Parsons and Jodi McMurray w were in vihe Dominican Republic earlier this year, helping to build churches there. Sparks is in Grade 9 at Skeena school, while Parsons _ and McMurray are graduating Caledonia students. Young travellers — help build churches f= Three lucky young people of the Seventh Day Adventist church have just returned from a spectacular 12-day trip. lo the Dominican Republic. Angie Sparks, Kip Parsons, and Jody McMurray were among 100 other B.C. youths who travelled to Santo Domingo as parl of the church’s Marantha Association. The B.C. students joined 1,200 others from Canada and the U.S. to help finish 12 churches the association is build- ing in thal country. All the supplies and labour to build: the churches comes from volunteers. The three. Terrace young people were part of a group working on jobs such as cement work,. and the painting, sanding and finish- ing of pews -- as well as . numerous other smalf jobs. The volunteers all paid their own way and were put up ina to- tal of 200 cabins normally used by government, officials -- who were all away on holidays. While there, the students hand- ed out food and clothing aid for distributiuon to the very poor people living there. The children there were dressed in rags and a standard, home. is the size of the “Here ’n There” by Yvonne Moen trip and being part of a group working ou such a project. eH Twelve seniors from Terrace : are just back from a wonderful six-week vacation. - The travellers -- Muriel Michiel, Marion Clift, Mary- Anne Dilley, Betty Demmitt, Gerty § Grundman, Mickey Dychokowsky, Jackie Webb, Hugh Powers, Fred Berg- hauser, Jake Mantel, Gladys and Charlie Oliver -- covered more than 10,000 miles with a group of 30 other seniors who travelled to interesting spots in ihe United States, They took in 23 states and had a seven-day cruise, THe seniors all had a wonderful time and were the toast of a welcome home din- ner at the Happy Gang Centre About 70 people gathered for the Miss Terrace speakoff on Apr. 26 at the- Terrace Inn. The 11 contestants took tums speaking off, making their presentations wilh much grace and elegance, Also at the event was Miss Ter- race 1991 Shelly O’Brien and second princess £991 Nikki Schafhauser.
