Phone 639-9753, City looks at used vs. leased Every summer the Terrace Parks and Recreation Department's transportation needs rise, and in the 1990 city budget this is covered by the allocation of $11,800 for vehicle rentals, Super- intendant of Parks and Recreation Steve Scott has another idea and city council has agreed that it’s a good one. Council has told Scott to go | ahead with his idea to purchase a used pick-up for a maximum cost of $3,500 on the condition that once the Recreation Department has concluded their summer's work it will go into the Public - Works pool of vehicles for general city use. A second recreation vehicle will be leased, says Scott, but will be used fora much shorter period of time. According to Scott, the used vehicle should last for at least a couple of years and once they have gotten about all they can out of the pickup they can recover at least a part of the purchase price through resale. At a cost of about only $1,500 a year this puts the city 5i2ac | way ahead of the lease game. ticle Phe tench ted ry i imal aad ng ogee gs meee” ape tt Kathleen Deigatty — continued from page 3 ‘ another way. “She coined the “accounting” term, “slush it through", he says. Understood by few, this is a term that apparently geis the job done... no matter what. "There’s no sense to the storm bearing down on you... arms far-- reaching and influential," Leisinger explained. "Sometimes after you meet with Kathleen, you’re not really sure what happened," But as he said earlier, "She’s usually right." - Caring? As described by Leisin- ger; compassionate, good natured and committed. "She’s done the Lodge proud," says former Ter- racview accountant and close friend. "She’s an excellent person." Board member Dawn Martin describes Delgatty as, "Never self-serving... a loving, helpful, dedicated and very caring person.” According to activity director Ruth Magnus, "If you needed a helping hand she would be there.” And in a letter, MP Jim Fulton described Delgatty as a person with "the most noble of human attributes; compassion for those in need". Toward the end of the evening Delgatty was given an opportunity to respond and it was difficult to envision the quiet spoken person at the microphone as a “hurricane”. "When I came to Terrace I never dreamed. what I could do," she began. "I was fortunate to have the opportunity." And who deserves the credit for all that’s taken place ‘at Terracview? "There have been so many," Delgatty said... "A car- ing staff. I learned so much from them." And, "The board has been tremendously progressive." Lane closed the evening with a proverb: "When you meet someone - special that person touches your soul." And to Delgatty he said, "I think you've done that.” But with their farewell dinner over, Lane spoke for everyone when he adopted a little Delgatty optimism. "Kathleen’s not reaily leaving," he said. "I’m not sure what’s going to develop from here on in... it’s not so much a leaving as a change." Delgatty has resigned her posi- tion at Terraceview and is off on a well deserved vacation; her first since she began working at the Lodge in 1984. With that out of the way, everyone expects her to retum. There will always be a health care position for Delgatty in Terrace.
