_ JANUARY—FEBRUARY, 1974 THE WESTERN CANADIAN LUMBER WORKER 13 LOCAL 1-417 JOB STEWARDS SEMINAR A large turnout of Job Stewards attended the Seminar put on by the [WA International Department of Research, Education and Collective Bargaining Coordination for Local 1-417 |WA, January 11- 12, in Kamloops. ; The Seminar, held in the David Thompson Hotel, was headed up by IWA International Ist Vice-President H. Landon Ladd, who was assisted by Denny Scott, Research Economist, Doug Smyth, Research & Education Associate, and Dick Spohn, Research & Education Assistant Coordinator. During the two days the Job Stewards were broken into four groups with the newer members attending the Basic Stewards Training course while the more advanced members studied such courses as Collective Bargaining, Contract Analysis & Arbitration, and Economics of the Forest Industry. The International and Regional Council are sponsoring a number of these Seminars throughout Regional Council No. 1, and all reports indicate that the members attending are finding them well worth while and are demanding more of them.
