‘B.C. forest industry faces new threat from high U.S. tarriffs The very survival of B.C.’s forest industry is threatened by a recent move in the U.S. to impose higher tariffs on the wood products entering the U.S. Last week three senators from the U.S. Pacific northwest wired President Kennedy urging him to rush through higher tariffs. The U.S. forest industry is reported to be in a state of crisis. Seventy-five percent of B.C.’s forest exports go to the U.S. Because of. trade polciies which put all our eggs in the U.S. basket, B.C.’s economy, towards' which forestry contributes 40%, is gravely menaced.
