March 26, 1982 Dear Mayor and Members of Council:. My family and I are long-time residents of 422 LAURIFR AVENUE in PORT COQUITLAM. The recent decision of Council to allow aerial spraying of a small acreage near my home is of considerable concern to me. My fears in this respect are for both the general environment of my own family and those of my neightbours, and also for the health hazard to people such as my son and myself, who, at the present time, are both under doctor's~preseriptiom-for-réspiratory problems. The controversy, as I understand it, is whether or not the use of aerial spray methods to apply this fungicide is in anyway harmful to people in the vicinity of the spray area. There can be no doubt, in view of the small acreage involved, and located as it is to other properties, that the rights of neighbours in this area will be violated and that they, including my family, will be forced to breath this chemical, be it harmful or not. There are many experts in the field of Geuetics who disagree with the manufacturers' claim that their product is safe for human's and animals to inhale, and I am very alarmed that you, the Council, who are charged with the responsibility ef the well- being of the citizens of this city should authorize an action which might well be injurious to the health of some of us in the area. I understand that Dr. Joseph Cummings, of the University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, is in the process of doing independent tests: the results of which will be forwarded to City Council. I feel, in light of this, the Council should suspend spraying until the next regular Council meeting on April 5, 1982. Yours truly, FP? Mrs. J. Harris
