COUNGI weue DEC 3 1978 TO: Mayor and Council DATE: November 29, 1973 FROM: Alderman Laking, Chairman, Recreation Committee I attended a meeting of the Rocky Point Boat Launching Ramp Committee on : November 28th. At this meeting a proposal was presented for improving the present boat launching ramp in Port Moody. This ramp was constructed jointly ; by Port Moody and Burnaby several years ago and has been operated by these two municipalities as a public facility. Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam were asked to participate in the original construction, however, both municipalities declined. : A report is attached setting out the current usage of the ramp from surveys taken during 1973 and the ramp committee is again approaching Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam i to participate in the upgrading of the facility. Their proposal is for a one time cash contribution to assist in the construction cost and they anticipate that _ revenue from the operation will make the operation self supporting in the future. { According to the report usage by Port Coquitlam residents amounts to 11.9% of the . total use of the facility. The committee has asked that Port Coquitlam share : r one half of this amount or 5.95% of the total project cost of $60,000. There is a possibility that the committee may get a recreation facilities grant which would ; reduce the cost to $40,000. therefore they are asking Port Coquitlam to contribute $3,570. or if the grant is approved the sum of $2,380. It would appear that these would be maximum contributions as the report indicates that their highest firm bid ic $47,565. for the project, , This proposal is submitted for Council's consideration. If Courcil feels that fi the project is worthwhile the sum should be recommended for inclusion in the 1974 a Provisional Budget. LDP :GRL:da attachment
