Ines Rae is interested in the language of
appearances. How much does a photograph
showing recognisable people doing
recognisable things actually say anything? A

Real Work of Art explores the business of
surface appearances through portraits of
women whose job it is to create a fagade.
In the beauty parlour, the department store
and in a day in the life of a mobile hairdresser,
Ines explores the relationship between work
and femininity through a series of large format
photographs and video portraits.

A collaboration between six galleries and three artists on
four separate continents. Chiasma is a performance to be
b e a m e d and projected to six locations worldwide. As part
of LIVE, an international biennial of performance art in
Vancouver, the works will be accessible online, in
performance and within the gallery space.
