TWO STRAIGHT wins over Smithers recently has given a boost to the Terrace Bantam rep hockey team’s stand- ing in the Skeena Valley league. The two wins bring the team up over .500 in the lea- gue standings. November 22 the team beat Smithers 8-4 wath Bryan Hull leading the way boasting three goals and three ass- ists, Tristan Murray put two away and singles came from Taylor Quinn, Brad Tomanocy and Cam Kerr. The next day the two teams were back on the ice. Going into the third Smithers was up 3-2 but Terrace scored two much needed goals in the final frame to win By Allan Hewitson ~The Kitimat {ce Demons showed they have two . ways lo win over Burns Lake Nov. 23-24 — the easy way and the hard way. On Saturday night the Demons came out and played their best hockey of the season with a convin- cing 7-4 win over the de- fending Central Interior Senior Men’s Hockey Lea- gue champions the Burns Lake Braves. The line of Craig He- wilson, Blaine Markwart and Jeremy Brady domina- ted throughout the night, tegistering a total of 12 points on the strength of four goals by Hewitson and two by Markwart. Brady picked up three assists as the line simply clicked, time after time. Burns Lake, missing its big captain, Dave Wiletjo, had a sluggish night as the Demons’ scorers feasted. Hewitson scored his first two goals in the first and completed his hat trick in the second after Markwart tipped home his pass to restore the two- goal lead that had been lost after Trevor Goertzen put an unassisted shot be- hind teen goalie Brandon Highton, making his first Saturday night start in Ta- mitik. Burns Lake pulled an- other back on a second un- assisied goal by Blake Sehneider but, with- 33 seconds left in the period, Hewilson snuffed out the Burns Lake recovery, with an assist going to Mark- wart. In the third, Andre Baldo capitalized on a nice setup by Chris Vil- ness hefore Hewitson got his fourth with five min- utes remaining. A couple of five-on- three opportunities allowed Mike Skinner and Jason Ruffell to put a dent in Highton’s goals against average before Markwart put a final puck behind goalie Wes Hart with only 42 ‘seconds left in the game. Coach Mark Zeilinski was satisfied with the per- formance of his team. “They showed how they can play tonight. The for- wards handled the puck well, and the defense locked pretty solid. But [ wasn’t too happy with lapses of team discipline in the third period that cost us a couple of goals that weren’t necessary. But it keeps us in first place and with only four games to the game 4-3. Bryan Hull led the way once again with two goals and an assist — including the winning goal with 2:05 left in the third. Tristan Murray and Colby link scored the singles. Eric Bevan, coming off an injury sustained in the Williams Lake tournament, backstopped Terrace in both games, preventing Smithers from scoring in the third of either game. “It was a better effort by the guys, but we still have room for improvement,” says coach John Amos, “It was good to get the team over .500 in league pay.” go, I like our chances of finishing up there.” On Sunday, however, the Ice Demons didn’t seem as well coordinated, although it looked as if the starting line of Hewitson- Markwart-Brady was ready to start out where it left off Saturday when Markwart opened the scoring 35 sec- onds into the game. Markwart finished off another nice combination with Brady and Hewitson, who earned assists. Burns Lake players were still looking for their first touch of the puck. But the short-handed Burns Lake team, missing two additional players from Saturday injuries, were more stubborn In this game and tied the score four minutes later on a rocket shot from Darcy Anderson, after goalie Joel Schneider sent him in - alone up the middie. It looked as if the De- mons had under-estimated the Lakers when Dan Konkin sent the visitors into the lead four minutes later but, defenceman Doug Wilson tied affairs on the power play at the 14 minute mark after some good circle passing by He- witson and Brady to set him up for the point shot. Demons proving unbeatable The Demons took the lead in the second on Markwart’s second of three goals in the game, again assisted by line mates, Hewitson and Brady. Andre Baldo flipped the puck over Schneider after - the goalie was down, five minules later to put Kiti- mat two up. Assists went to Chris Vilness and Wade . Balbirnie. Again, Kitimat seemed to be looking for ways to be good hosts as Jason Ruffell scored power play goals three minutes apart late in the second to tie the game al the interval. The teams then played some end to end hockey before Ian Coleman shook off the anvil he’s been car- rying for a couple of weeks, to score at the 12.26 mark, showing good hands by neatly finishing a passing play from Tyler Daum and Nathan Camp- bell, who earned assists. Burns Lake ran into penalty trouble late in the game and Blaine Mark- wart notched his hat trick — info an empty net with a curling clearing shot after Brady and Sonny Muchal- la moved the puck around at the blue line with Schneider on the bench for an extra attacker, Scoreboard Minor Hockey Midget House League Standings to Nov. 28 GA 66 79 64 97 GP Team Yellow 20 Team White 21 Team Red 19 Team Teal 20 GF 97 86 59 64 Wet 13 6 11 9 8 11 7 «613 Goa!
