1 B2 Terrace Review — Wednesday, February 6, 1991 awe 4 f oe Cross-country skiers — marathon on mountain | Well-known Burns Lake skier Tony Strimbold ‘turned in the fastest time for the Bulkley Valley cross-country ski mara- thon held last weekend at the Pine Creek trails on Hudson Bay Mountain in Smithers. Strim- bold blazed across the finish line in one hour, 46 minutes, 24 seconds. It was a 35-kilometre course. The top female was Thelma Hagen in two hours, 24 minutes, two seconds. One hundred and forty-three skiers competed in this annual marathon. A half- marathon was also staged, plus shorter routes for juniors and tots. Three-year-old Peggy Howard was the youngest skier. ~ Results Senior Men’s 19 to 29 years: Tony Strimbold, Matthew Cachia, Tyler Cochrane. Men’s 30 to 39 years: Harry James, Richard Harrison, Walter Bucher. Men’s 40 to 49 years: Laurie Karjaluoto, Ray Wick, Matt Denys. . Men’s 50 to 59 years: Barry Hagen, Toni Heiuzmann, Cecil Reid. Men’s 60 to 69 years: Dr. Ken Leighton: (oldest racer). Senior Women 20 to 29 years: Sally Thompson, Denise Knight, Lynn Mitenko. Our . bodies are learning most of our movement skills when we're young. Children are very agile and adaptable to new situations. This is one good reason to encourage the development of young skiers. Another advantage is the unlimited entertainment and fitness your children will gain through skiing. Skiing is a sport shared by young and old alike. Once learned, it is a sport that one can enjoy for many years. At any age, safety and fun are of foremost . importance. Until age three+, youngsters will require constant supervision and remember: they tire quickly. If you are a parent and don’t ski, you ought to enrol your children in a professional learning programme. Children may start in Snow Mites ski school programmes at Shames as young as four.
