THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM C 0 lJ \\ C REPORT AUG 22 1977 Maysr and Council '- August 19th, 1977 G.W. Ulmer, — c.c. V.G. Borch, P. Eng., Works & Utilities City Engineer Superintendent ARS Om Meet tes ten eee ete Re: Paper Recycling AS you are aware we started our paper recycling programme approximately June 13th, 1977 and it has been working reasonably well with a minimum amount of advertising to the public. : At the end of July we had a total of 16 tons of paper collected which net the City a total receipt of $355.75. ‘To the end of July we have averaged approximately 2.28 tons per week and I feel we could double that if we had the co- operation of the public as to proper bundling procedures, Proper bundling is very important because of paper rack space and handling, if it is not bundled properly we have to throw it into the packer, however, I do think in time the public will come around and adopt a proper bundling procedure particu- larly if we could inform them through the mail by proper illustrated flyers. To this point I have had fairly good cooperation from my men and I biieve they have adopted it as part of their daily routine, however, they do make remarks about improper bundling. Approximately ten days ago I talked to Mr. Russell of the Belkin Paper Board and he is pleased with the results that we have so far. He indicated to me that he would like to have other municipalities involved. paTe Aline AGL te ems I trust this report will assist you in deciding whether this is a good programme and if it should be continued.
