Guild News After spending two very relaxing weeks away from the hustle and bustle of Vancouver in general and of the Potters’ Guild in particular, ['m refreshed and ready to fecws on the remainder of LOSS! Many thanks for the congratulatory phone calls (& a few wishing me luck!}, While | was away, with chanks to the help of Linda Doherty and the other board members who came in to lend a hand, chings continued along just fine: che catalogue registrations are growing in number every day, please see Laura Arpiainen’s article for more information; a special reception has been planed for Takeshi Yasuda here at the Gallery on Thursday, Qerober 17th (7-9pm) - his work will be on display until October 27rh {thanks Linda!); and, the desk has less piles on it than before! Aa passed ac che Annual General Meeting in May ‘96, the membership races for the 1997 calendar year have increased by $5 or $10, depending upon the category (che price now includes GST). Please see the membership application form on the back page for further informacion. All membership dues received after November L5ch will be carried over to 1997, The article which appeared in last month's newsletter about che patencial changes mo the current system for Made In Clay has only generated 2 responses co date. Lasdly, two members of our board, Carol Mayer and Deborah Tibbel, will be giving an introductory 4-session course for the general public on world ceramics. Not only will they utilize the ceramic collection at the Museum of Anthropology, bur will give illustrated talks, have hands-on demonstrations, and visit a porrer's studio roa! "The curious won't be able co resist the lure of clay with the combined enthusiasm of a ceramic curator and a potter! Goed luck Carol and Deborah! The topic of education leads me on to workshops. The workshop committee has confirmed with John Leach's booking cc- ofdinacer that we are wanting him co give a werkshog here next spring (he will be touring che Srares and Canada]. And finally, don't forget oo mark your calendars and attend some or all of che events surrounding Takeshi Yasuda's workshop on Cetmber 15/20, Gallery News Just as the Guild was in excellent hands when | wason holiday, so was the Gallery, thanks to che Gallery Assistance. ['m very happy co welcome a new member to our team, Merle Denner will be volunteering for our opening receptions. | couldn't ask for a more supportive and great group to work wich - thanks to all of you. As mentioned last msonch, our slaved September exhibit was postponed to sometime later due to unforeseeable eireumstances; forrunately, Shameful Behavior was able to stay through until the end of September (thank you Elaine!). After a quick wall colour change to a warm, rich paprika, Gillian MeMillan “there's many 2 slip ‘twixt cup and lip...” will open on Thursday, October 3 and run until the 3rd of November. Gillian has rediscovered her British roots with abstracted, art-nouveau inspired images on vessels and tiles - don't miss the epportuniry oo see a Gled wroughe iran table which even has tiles for feet! Gillian's show will be followed by “FEASTS - Veasels for Celebratory Gatherings", new work by Resemary Amon, Jay MacLennan and Celia Rice- Jones. The opening reception will be Thursday, November 7th in che Gallery. Also during November, the front window will be suitably decorated for the festive season, and will frame a cree decorated with clay ornaments. All members are encouraged to bring their work to hang on the tree before October 15 —we'll need lots of stack, so the more participating artises the mertier! Clay You Can Hold a Cunile Toa will alee feature locally made bee way candles tc complement the range of candlesti-ks and candleholders. This is Open to all members of che Potters’ Guild, and again, los of stock will be needed to continually fill the display. Please bring work co the Gallery before che end of November, ar give me a call (669. 5645). The schedule for implementing the new Computer system for che Gallery has been pushed back to Nov. | {for naow!). There is scill a oe of work to do betore it can be up and running smoothly; gallery arises will be receiving che promised informacion sometime in the near future! The Gallery will again have extended heliday hours for the manth of December. Lf anyone is interested in volunteering during this time as a wrapper, stocker, and people waccher, please call!!!
