Pole climbing becomes an
official Fall Fair event

NOVICE AND professional loggers will be
climbing poles and cutting them down in this
year’s loggers sports event at the Skeena Valley
Fall Fair Sep. 5.

That’s because the XI Aanual Loggers Sports

competition is making pole climbing an official

event.

The poles, said event organizer Frank Pelle, are
up anyway because log falling —- the competi-
tion where loggers see how accurately they can
drop a pole — is a popular event.

Pelle says entry forms from as far away as Wil-
liams Lake, Squamish and Vancouver Island are
arriving in droves for the popular competition.

But he’s not sure how many loggers will par-
ticipate in the new event,

“It could be just two or three from Squamish,”
he said. “(Down there they have bigger trees and
they have to top them first.”

* Aud regardless of which logger takes home the
lop cash prize — Pelle is hoping spectators will
slick around rain or shine, to win door prizes.
