Laurie says it was fate that she had the op- portunity. MacNeil was in the area for a concert in Prince Rupert on Saturday evening and Monday night’s concert in Ter- race. by Betty Barton Late on the Saturday night, a Rita MacNeil concert without Rita MacNeil. Having met Laurie Thain at Expo 86 and then again last weekend, when she was performing at the Crest Hotel in Prince Rupert, MacNeil’s manager phoned her and asked if she’d like to work that evening. - Laurie was thrilled. She great- ly admires Rita’s talent and her tenacity. And to be-back-up for her was a great honor. For 40 tained a full house at the R.E.M. Lee with her own music, both old and new. She was even honored with a request for an encore.. When MacNeil finally arrived, like a whirling. dervish, she thanked Laurie profusely.
