This position was established in 1970 and has been financed on an inter municipal basis with Port Moody and the District of Coquitlam. I will be pursuing the continuation of this position with the Health Committee and with the other Municipalities, it may be that the work can be taken over by a Provincial employee operacing in conjunction with the Simon Fraser Health Unit. There will be a further report on this matter. 5, Recreation Survey The Building Committee that is studying the recreation referendum has approved gathering information by way of a survey within the community on recreation needs. The financing required for this will be taken from the funds allotted by Council for the preparatory work leading up to the holding of a referendum in the Spring. The Committee recommended that the Survey be sent to all households in the City and, anticipating a good return, we have discussed the possibility of having the survey tallied by computer utilizing the services of the computer at Simon Fraser University. The cost of coding the survey, key punching and the computer work is estimated to cost somewhere in the neighbourhood of $400 to $600. This cost is Probably not much in exces. of what it would cost to have several employees tally the returns by hand and is by far a better alternative. My reason for mentioning this is that if we do use the services of the computer, Simon Fraser University require a contract which would need to be signed by the Mayor and the Clerk. If Council would appreve this action it will enable us to proceed with a contract should the returns make it worthwhile. LDP: da
