They travelled to Telkwa, B.C. } by cay, then by train to Terrace where Harvy and Mabel Houlben lived for the rest of their lives, After serving in the Canadian Armed FR Forces during Worlh War fl, Charlie f returned to Terrace. He worked in a number of eccupations, generally related ff to the logging industry and sawmilling, j for the next two dsecates. He then joined the public service working as a stationary § engineer in Terrace and Smithers for the next two decades antil his retirement twenty years ago, Charlied greatest § dources of joy were hid family, his friends, and his horses. He raised many pack and sadele horses at Merkley Farm north of Terrace, then resumed his youthful interest in draft horses when he formed in Hazelton and Quick, He continued to be active in the focal draft horse scene after moving to Telkwa, B.C. To the amazement of tourista and the consternation of his family, he drove what may be the fast horse and wagon team to travel from Hazelton to Smithers via the High Rood. He led his fined team of draft hordes into the arena at the Imithers Fall Fair in Acagust of 2.001, Charlie's circle of frients and acquaintances was vast. He was a noted dtoryteller, with a humorous anecbote for every occadion. Moat who knew him were impreased by his unadauming, sociable manner and hia genuine interest in others, Charlie fought a courageous battle with cancer in hid final years, ‘True to his nature, he corifounded medical predictions and lived an active life up to his final ays. He died at his home in Telkwa, as he wished, surrounded by his amily Charlie was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Mabel and his two sisters, Doris and Pegay. He is survived by his Grother, Alex, his chilbren, Harry, Wendy, Debbie, Greig, Kelly, Kurt, ans Mark, and by a till growing contingent of grandchildren, great-granbdchildyen, nieces and nephews.
