. The incidents referred to by
Bretfeld include a loaded Takhar
Trucking logging truck that over-
tumed while making a left turn at
the north end of the overpass. This
resulted in a part of the load roll-
ing down an embankment onto.a
back alley and striking the rear of
the mall. There. were no injuries
and damage was minimal. The
second incident occurred earlier
this month when‘a car came loose
from a tow truck’s hook, slid down
_ the same embankment, and rolled
into’ the building. =~

- Bretfeld notes, however, that the |

absence of injuries may be just a
‘matter of luck. In a letter to the
city, she writes: "Fortunately, there
were no pedestrians walking in the
lane at the time, or vehicles with
passengers driving through, 50 I
have no injuries to report."

Short of building a new overpass
in a safer location, there may be a
solution, though. Bretfeld suggest |
that the city might install concrete
barriers at the north end of Sande
Overpass. .
_ Council’s Public Works Commit-
tee will be considering Bretfeld's
suggestion this week. Before mak-
ing the referral, however, Ald.
Ruth Hallock made one observa-
tion: the Ministry of Highways is —
responsible for the overpass and
that particular intersection... Are
they also responsible for installing
