The results are: Grade 3 History — Honors: Vicky Sainis. Grade 2 Rudiments — First Class Honors with Distinction: Catherine ‘Dickson; Honors: Andrea May Arnold; Pass: Tina Hovenkamp. Grade 1 Rudiments — First Class Honors with Distinction: Deborah Casey, Stephen Michael Fleming, Pauline Lepp; First Class Honors: Paul Francis Fleming, Jennifer Susan McMynn, Margaret Higginson, Shelley Marie Mantel, Angela Sparks; Honors: Sandra Leanne Mantel; Aisha Manji; Pass: The massive task of sorting out and scheduling each individual entry in the Pacific Northwest Music Festival was taken on - by volunteers during a long recent evening. McMurray, Festival Last Thursday evening, many volunteers and members of the 25th Pacific Northwest Music Festival met to complete com- petitor cards for the events in the music festival, set to begin Match 8. ; Preparations for each year’ 5 Music Festival begin as soon as the awards have been presented and competitors have returned home from the current festival. July and August are the only months the committee doesn’t meet, Adjudicators for the various events are lined up as far as two years ahead of time. The Speech Arts Committee, consisting this year of Bila George, Jo Falconer and Judy Tessaro, meets initially in August to select pieces (poems) for school classes . to perform at the music festival. They choose samplings of lyric and dramatic poems and Choral committee sorts out entries works. for age groups up to Grade 12. The 35 assigned poems are then listed and cir- culated to the schools and also put into the Syllabus. Tutors or coaches help children to choose pieces in, other . speech, catergories. In the instrumental category, all pieces are self-chosen by students and their teachers. The Speech Arts: Committee members do workshops. in speech arts, are involved - as coaches and advisors -for clarification on pieces. ‘Competitor Cards night”’ is one of many last minute details to ensure that the Festival runs smoothly and on schedule.
